Little River Canyon Falls, Alabama in Autumn

North Alabama always gets the good stuff - all the attention. For good reason. Huntsville is amazing - my favorite Alabama city. Birmingham has many activities to offer. Muscle Shoals (according to Google Maps, Muscle Schools) is pretty and has a lot to offer. However, my absolute favorite outdoor place to visit is Little River Canyon.
When I was a kid, my church would go on trips to Fort Payne with the youth. Now this was twenty-four years ago (I think) but I remember hiking to these falls and jumping off of a Lion King-like rock in the middle of that pool. It wasn't high, maybe nine or ten feet. You can clearly see that there's no rock there anymore. I remember the hikes to other places, getting stung by a bee while walking along the side of a cliff in one of the parks, going by myself down a trail I wasn't supposed to go down because I wanted to see a tiny waterfall...
I remember all the fun and jokes and music and campfires when I look at this. It's not the same as it used to be, though. That's just how things go nowadays. Everything changes. Everything but the memory. I'm thankful I have the memory of spending four or five days a year here with good people having a good time and fellowship.
Little River Falls is absolutely gorgeous in autumn and winter. I photographed a senior here a few years ago in perfect light. Listening to the water is something I could sit there and do all day long. When I see this, I hear it.
