Autumn sunset in Lamar Valley in Yellowstone. Fantastic views. This place will really open your eyes to just how small we really are. This is probably my favorite area of the Yellowstone. In fact, I can say more than probably. It IS my favorite place in Yellowstone National Park!
This was from my first trip to the area and I was overwhelmed and underprepared for landscapes. I'm only just now trying to refine my landscape abilities (about four years too late). The whole crew from the trip - all sixteen of us - stopped our caravan of four cars to get out and photograph this amazing sunset. This is actually one of several. I photographed this and then we switched over to opening the shutter for twenty to sixty seconds. That was my first time ever trying it. I did not pull it off successfully, though, so we have the non-opened-shutter image here.
As everyone continued to work with their shutters and filters, we watched pronghorns prancing in the valley and heard a wolf howl. This was the first (and only so far) time I've ever heard a wolf howl. I was so excited. We never saw a wolf or a bear in the wild on this trip, unfortunately, but that would change on my next couple of visits.
